Green Juice is the New Coffee

Just a short time ago my Peets coffee was very important to me. I had a cup first thing in the morning every single morning. I loved the whole process of making it. I loved how the fresh whole beans smelled as I ground them. I loved filling my French press with hot water and steaming my whole milk. Most of all I loved the taste. There was something really fun about drinking my coffee as I read my emails in the morning and planned my day.

After I went high raw this past summer something changed, I no longer craved my beloved morning coffee. I didn’t mean to give it up, it just happened naturally. I haven’t drank coffee since, my new favorite way to start my day is with a large green juice. I find that green juice wakes me up like coffee never could.

My morning ritual is very different now. I normally drink 4 cups of water with lemon as soon as I wake up, then after I’m showered I make my green juice. I always juice at least 1/2 a bunch of greens like chard or kale, sometimes I juice more. Here is my favorite recipe:

  • 1/2 bunch or more of kale
  • 1 pear
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 a cucumber
  • 2-3 stalks of celery
  • 1/4 lemon peeled

I just juice it in my awesome Champion Juicer and enjoy. My son will join me if I add some fresh pineapple to the recipe, he likes it sweet. My husband will always take a glass if I catch him before work.

Here is a shot of my son enjoying some green juice, he doesn’t really wear glasses, he was just chiseling some dinosaur fossils.

Try it!  Green juice is the new coffee, at least it is for me.

Get used to it! I crave our green smoothies even more than I did coffee. I really don’t need the caffeine to get going in the morning anymore either. Hardest part is finding a good green smoothie when you’re away from home. :(

Hi Damon, thanks for your comment. I know what you mean about craving green smoothies. The more greens I eat or drink the more my body craves them.
