Triathlon Challenge

You guys know I like to challenge myself. I learned to ski days before my 40th birthday and now I’m involved in another challenge. I will be completing my first Triathlon on May 27th in Austin Texas, the CapTexTri. I am training with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training ( TNT ).  I’ll be raising money to help find a cure for blood cancers while I train. When my friend Kim asked if would be interested in joining her to train for this Tri, I said yes immediately. I didn’t hesitate for a minute and I’m not sure why.

I have not been on a bike since I was 9 years old. I remember the day I stopped riding like it was yesterday; I was going really fast and then I lost control and fell. It must have been a bad fall because I never rode my bike again. I’m also not the best swimmer. In fact I  don’t really like swimming; I have a pool but I rarely swim in it. I do like to run but I have not since I injured my knee. As you can see I have many reasons why I should not be doing this. But I have even more reasons why I should.

Team in Training

A huge incentive is that I like to challenge myself. I like to push my body to its limits and be strong. I love the idea of training with a supportive group of people while making new friends. I also love that we are all raising money to help find a cure for blood cancers. We all know someone who has lost their battle with cancer or who has survived the disease. I lost my mother at a very young age to cancer and many other people who meant a lot to me. I would like to do something to help someone avoid the pain I went though as a child. The thought of fundraising actually scares me more than the race itself. I don’t like asking people for money but I know that I have to, so feel free to donate to my page.

To make things a little more interesting I thought it would be fun to create some challenges. If you donate $200.00 or more, remember this is completely tax deductible, I will do one of the following things:

  • Eat vegan until the race. I have recently included some new animals in my diet, if you’d rather see them alive just head to my page and donate $200.00 or more and I’ll stop eating them (at least until after the Triathlon maybe longer).
  • Dye my hair purple. I will dye my hair TNT purple and keep it that way until after the Triathlon just donate the $200.00 and I’ll head to the salon.
  • Give up alcohol and coffee. I love wine and lately I have been drinking coffee again. I’ll give up both until after the Triathlon, it will be difficult but your $200.00 donation will help me through it.

If you would like to take me up on any of these please head to my page. I will begin as soon as I receive your donation. Just leave me a note in the comments telling me which challenge you want me to do. Remember any amount helps, I hope to see your name listed as one of my donors.

buckle up

I’m ready to train hard!
